Domestic Violence Webinar

Domestic violence is a serious crime against society. Thousands of people in New Jersey are regularly beaten, tortured, or in some cases, killed by their spouses or people they live with every day. A significant number of women who are assaulted are pregnant, and statistics show a correlation between spousal abuse and child abuse. And children, even when they are not the ones physically abused, suffer deep and lasting emotional effects from exposure to domestic violence.

Our most vulnerable citizens, especially the elderly and disabled, are especially at risk. These incidences of abuse and neglect often go unreported because many of them lack the ability to report it. In the past, crimes involving domestic violence were often treated differently than other crimes. In 2014, the Prevention of Domestic Violence Act passed, yet that year, there were still 62,055 domestic violence offenses reported by the police.
